-For
one tray of wheatgrass wash 1lb wheat
seed and soak for 24 hours rinsing every
4 hours.
- Place seeds in tray and keep in dark
until sprouted. Seeds must be kept lightly
moist at all times so rinse morning and
evening. Moistened kitchen paper can be
used for this purpose.
-When seeds have sprouted fill tray with
organic compost and remove any lumps.

-
Flatten out soil, and then spread sprouts
out to cover soil, one and a half layers
is sufficient. Press down gently and
lightly water. Then place in dark for
another night.
- At this stage you should have little
white stalks one and a half inches tall.
Water lightly and place in tray in indirect
sunlight. At this point you can add
kelp to water to aid healthy growth.
One feed in the life is enough.
- When grass reaches 7-10 inches it
is ready to cut. Cut approx one-quater
tray per hit. rinse and put through
juicer first.
Drink to your health!

Mould
Mould is a common problem with wheatgrass.
It is of no danger if taken in juice,
all the same if permitted to thrive, it
can stunt growth of grass. Here are a
few pointers to help the eradication of
mould:
- Mould is caused by seeds that have not
sprouted., therefore prick out any obviously
dead seeds you see.
- Mould can also be caused by humidity
so keep that in cheque. never let trays
go over 70kg.
- Adding a spoon of sea salt to spray
water is an easy and effictive way of
keeping mould at bay.
Growing Space
Space often can become a problem once
you start growing lots of wheatgrass and
sprouts. Very inexpensive racks can be
purchased from a local hardware store,
or you can make a rack with PVC pipes.
This seems to be a better solution for
those who have their wheatgrass scattered
all over their kitchen.
Old Grass
If you dont use the grass fast enough,
your wheatgrass will get old, so here
is a good solution! Whether you buy or
grow your own flat of wheatgrass, if you
dont use the grass fast enough it
begins to turn yellow and wilt (because
it has used all the minerals from the
soil.) Right as it begins to tinge yellow,
cut all the rest of the grass off of the
flat and put it in a plastic bag in your
refrigerator. The grass will last for
about one week after it is cut.
